Councilman Stephen DiBrienza was first elected to the City Council of the City of New York in 1985. He currently represents the 39th District. In January 1994, he was elected Chair of the General Welfare Committee of the City Council, which oversees the Human Resources Administration, the Department of Homeless Services, the Administration for Children’s Services, the Department of Employment, and the Human Rights Com-mission. He also serves on the Economic Development Committee, the Higher EducationCommittee, and the State and Federal Legislation Committee. Previously, Mr. DiBrienza chaired the Contracts Committee and has served as a member of the Land Use Committee. He received a B.A. from Pace University and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. Mr. DiBrienza is married and has two children.
