In March 2006, the National Institutes of Health (NIH) held a State-of-theScience Conference entitled “Cesarean Delivery on Maternal Request.” At the end of the meeting, a multi-disciplinary panel issued a statement recognizing that, in some circumstances, “cesarean delivery on maternal request may be a reasonable alternative to planned vaginal delivery.”
