Invest-Divest: Tearing Down the Financial Structures of Mass Incarceration
Social Change’s annual colloquium, cosponsored by the Black Allied Law Student’s Association (BALSA), “Invest-Divest: Tearing Down the Financial Structures of Mass Incarceration,” will take place on Friday, March 1 at 3 p.m.
“Invest–Divest” will explore a call to action to invest in communities, and divest from mass incarceration, drawing on an increased awareness of precisely how the criminal justice apparatus is financed. We are proud to welcome Daryl Atkinson, Cat Brooks, Erica Perry, Derecka Purnell, and Bianca Tylek to NYU for the convening. The panelists will speak and answer questions in Vanderbilt Hall Room 220, followed by breakout sessions in nearby classrooms and closing remarks. The colloquium will end with a reception in Golding Lounge from 6-7 p.m. The venue is wheelchair accessible. The event is free and open to the public.
Additional co-sponsors are: Latinx Law Students Association, Immigrant Rights Project, Law Students for Economic Justice, RISE, The Coalition on Law & Representation, Prison Reform & Education Project, PILSA, and the Suspension Representation Project.
