Elica Vafaie

Elica Vafaie is the Pro Bono & Strategic Partnerships Director at the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area, a civil rights organization focusing on Immigrant Justice, Criminal Justice, and Economic Justice. She is President Emeritus of the Iranian American Bar Association of Northern California and a Board Member of the national Iranian American Bar Association. Elica has worked on a range of strategies challenging Muslim Ban including 2017 airport legal response, Know Your Rights education, direct legal services, providing training and technical assistance to practitioners, policy advocacy, and impact litigation. She advises on Pars v. Pompeo, a class action lawsuit challenging the implementation and the waiver provision of the Muslim Ban with the Iranian American Bar Association, National Immigration Law Center, Council on American-Islamic Relations California, Advancing Justice- Asian Law Caucus, Arnold & Porter, and Lane Powell. Elica received her JD from UC Davis School of Law, where she was active in the Immigration Law Clinic and a UC Human Rights Fellow/Ella Baker Fellow at the Center for Constitutional Rights. She is a 2015-2016 German Marshall Memorial Fellow.
